Traffic Lights Game Play

How it works

  1. You add your player name and email address to the database
  2. You either select another player from the list and click 'PLAY'
  3. OR You are selected from the list by another player.

Let's consider the first option, YOU select another player and click on 'PLAY'

  1. You get first move. Make your choice of move, enter any opening dialogue, submit it.
  2. If the other player is 'Online' they see your move and respond to it. Play continues by each player entering their move and dialogue, sumitting their move and clicking on the 'refresh' button provided to see if their opponent has moved yet. If you need to break the connection for any reason, simply log back in using the same Player Name and Login Number(as supplied) to pick up the game where you left off.
  3. If the other player is not 'Online' and fails to respond within 3 minutes,
    1. your refresh action automatically sends your opponent an email to let them know they have been challenged and gives instructions how to log back in etc.
    2. When they log back in and make their first move you are automatically sent an email to let you know that the challenge has been accepted. Your login details are included in the email as a reminder.

Now for the second option, you are SELECTED by another player who chooses your name from the list and clicks on 'PLAY'.

  1. They get first move. They make their move, enter any opening dialogue and submit it.
  2. If you are 'Online',
    1. the next time you click on 'CHECK' you see the game board and your opponent's move and dialogue.
    2. You make a move and enter any dialogue in reply then submit your move.
    3. Play continues by each player entering their move and dialogue, sumitting their move and clicking on the 'refresh' button provided to see if their opponent has moved yet. If you need to break the connection for any reason, simply log back in using the same Player Name and Login Number(as supplied) to pick up the game where you left off.
  3. If you are not 'Online' or fail to respond within 3 minutes of the last move,
    1. your opponents 'REFRESH' action triggers an email challenge being sent to you with details of the challenge and how to log back in and resume the game.
    2. When you log back in and make your first move your challenger is automatically notified that you have accepted the challenge and the game is on.

Continuous or Broken Play

If both players are 'Online' at the same time you can maintain continuous play by refreshing from time to time to see if it's your turn yet. Even if you use your browser for other tasks while waiting for your opponents move you can use the back button to return to your previous page at 'WAIT' status and refresh again. Alternatively you can open another instance of your browser for your other work and keep your game window active but minimised or in the background.

The database makes it possible to play the game in Broken Play mode. Players using dial-up connections may prefer this mode to save expense while waiting for your opponent to move. Whenever you login in using your Player Name and Login Number you will resume that game at the point where you left it. Using the dialogue facility it is possible to arrange with your opponent a suitable time for you both to be online and play continuously if you prefer.

Broken Play enables players in different time zones of the world to play each other without losing sleep. You can make your move, submit it, and login again tomorrow to see your opponents reply.
